Each Peach Pear Plum

Such a great book for little readers tying in a few different nursery rhymes and the fun game of “I Spy”!

Seed School

Super cute book that explains how seeds grow and form in a simplistic language for children.

Songs from the Deep
by Kelly Powell

I finished Kelly Powell's Songs from the Deep today and I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I liked the way the book handled the sirens: it challenged the conventional thought (and my own stereotype) of sirens being bad. I think the beginnings of the theme of people not being entirely bad or entirely good were there, but they weren't really explored (or showcased) by the characters. The pacing of scenes also felt off; there was a weird imbalance of description. I loved the concept of the book and I liked reading it, but I don't know if I'll remember it in five years.

Curse of the Specter Queen
by Jenny Elder Moke

First of all, I loved the Irish folklore interwoven into the story! The story was atmospheric and I enjoyed reading the characters' different dynamics; I was interested in Sam's relationships with Bennett and Jo. However, I think that the relationships could have been explored more deeply instead of sidelining them to focus on the plot. The story itself also seemed...easy--obstacles Sam and Jo faced were quickly resolved and the plot twists lacked "twist." All in all though, a fun read.
